I recently found myself in the library on campus. It's not a place I frequent--my major doesn't favor spending time among the books and shelves, despite the peace that I feel when I catch the scent of a tome that has more decades than my parents under its belt. Since that initial visit 3 days ago, I've come back 3 more times, just to sit at a table and work on the modular arithmetic slowly stealing my soul and the paper I really wish I could devote time to.
Being surrounded by the books and the quiet reminds me of who I used to be, back when all I did was bury my face in a novel, a poem or a story of any sort--when I wasn't trying to emulate those authors with works of my own, with mixed results.
The world may be slowly moving towards digital means of representing all of the information in the books around me, and perhaps there isn't anything I can do to stop that.
But I hope I never forget the smell of those old pages, or the weight of the author's words in my hands.

Blogging
First off---I haven't caught up on all my blog reading. Sorry..
That out of the way...I have been quite busy. I had to drop a course, etc etc.
But, because of that, I now have the time to go back to thought experiments and game design, like designing a 3-sex society and finishing that top-down scrolling space shooter I started working on forever ago.
I also send out all of the e-mails.
Sadly, I really don't have much to say right now, and I need to get back to my modular arithmetic homework.
Au revoir.

Slaying the Edible Dragon that is Santa
So tonight, from 7:00pm till 2:30am, I was engaged in a 9 person, 2 DM round of Dungeons and Dragons, in which the enemies and the maps were sweet, sweet edible madness. We fought chocolate elfs and gummy bear gnomes on a peppermint bark field, adventured through a gingerbread castle, fought a marshmellow snowman(which our changeling quickly copied), and even fought Santa Claus himself atop caramel reindeer.
It. Was. Glorious.
And I'll talk more about it later, I'm tired.
Good. Night.

A New Start
So...
Hi.
Long time no see.
Let's get right to it shall we? No, don't shoot me! Don't sho---!
Darn it.
Ok, take two.
Life has progressed quite quickly lately. I am now in two one-act plays going up at the end of the month, tech directing another play going up at the end of March, plus all of the school and work obligations.
Oh, and I got to go ice skating.
And am missing a chunk of skin half the size of my palm because of this. Well, maybe a third of the size.
It was a lot of fun though, and I'm not saying that due to masochism.
Or am I?
Anyways...this entry needs some sort of direction.
After today, all posts will revert to having some sort of actually point. This is just to make a post to have made a post. Update schedule is tentatively twice weekly, W and Sa.
Right...so...bye!

To sleep, perchance to Dream
Citizens of the internet,
Last night, I dreamed. Nay, not in the kind of Martin Luther King Junior, or the prophets of religious inclination, or anything of the sort.
I simply dreamed. Wild, fascinating things that changed every time I awoke, and which always ended with me waking. I seem to recall slaying a dinosaur at one point, and directly counteracting a movie plot as well, possibly in the same dream, possibly in different ones. None of the dreams truly stand out in my head, and there were at least a half a dozen that I am aware of having occurred, if for no other reason than that, as stated, I was awake between them.
Whether you believe that dreams contain hidden meanings, show odd glimpses of the future, or just are the senseless meanderings of our subconsciousness, the fact remains that they continue to be a part of our nights, whether we remember them or not, and I hope they stay.
After all, how else would I experience killing a T-Rex being controlled by a psychic by flying through its skeleton(and yes, I think that happened. Hard to be sure)?

Initial Impressions of the Nintendo 3DS
Attention city folk, townsfolk, country folk, and travelling folk wearing cloaks but not carrying staves,
Planning on replacing my long dead and dearly missed DS, I headed for the local game store, in order to peruse their collection of used systems and hopefully pick up a DSLite for cheap, or perhaps a DSi.
Instead, I left carrying a shiny, lightly used 3DS.
If fit comfortably in my hands, though I do have slightly larger hands than the average person I have met, so that may not be the case for most, and I booted it up shortly after leaving the store.
First off, the much-toted 3D effect deserved checking out. So, I utilized it, both in the menus and in-game(Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has been beautifully ported). It works well, at least so far. True, other eyes viewing the screen instead see two-disconnected images, but handhelds are generally used for solo play, and if you have an audience, you have the option of turning off the 3D effect with the slider, without harming your gameplay(at least as far as I have seen.)
Also of much amusement was the AR Games. Using the AR cards(which luckily were still with my used system) you can interact and play with your real-life environment, up to and including bending the surface to form a golf course in which you fight a dragon. Also fun was fishing in a "lake" made up of the arm of a chair.
I do have a few complaints with the system though. The battery life...is laughable. Particularly when playing 3DS games using the 3D. It is no wonder that the sales clerk told me to buy the extended battery pack-this system desperately needs it.
Also of some annoyance is the low quality of the cameras. Both of the outside cameras are a mere .3 megapixels. My three-year old cell phone was nothing close to a professional grade piece of digital photography equipment, but it managed to have a 2 or 3 megapixel camera. It was disappointing to be taking a picture of my miis playing leapfrog and having a fuzzy background image, despite good lighting.
The internet browser isn't perfect...doesn't support flash...but i didn't buy a 3DS for internet, so that I can live with.
Other than that, it is a worthy handheld, especially is you just wanted to play your DS games again and don't mind investing in the system for what's to come, like Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, StarFox64 3D, and maybe even Threatrhythm: Final Fantasy(which is a whole other ball game)
